Using the library

The BBF is open access to the public. It is located at Warschauer Straße 34 - 38 on the first floor of a prestigious office building.

The user area is both spacious and modern.

It is divided into the reading room with about 30,000 volumes of reference works, the open store containing the acquisitions of the last 15 years with unlimited access, and the lending/information area with includes user PCs and catalogues. In addition, the library houses an exhibition area and a seminar room, which may be used by groups of up to 15 people (by appointment). Multimedia ressources can be used in a separate room.
More than 30 study spaces with plugs for laptops and free internet access via WLAN are available in the user area. A total of 6 PCs are available for users, two of which offer unlimited internet access.
The BBF is part of the national and international distance loan system.

Conditions of borrowing

Borrowers must comply with the corresponding sections from the pdfBBF's rules and conditions:

  • books published before 1945 may only be consulted on the premises of the BBF;
  • journals and newspapers (marked with Z in the shelf mark, e.g. Z 123, or 2 A, e.g. 2 A 123) may not be borrowed. Copies of individual articles from journals or collected works may be ordered as copies. Regardless of the number of pages, copies cost 4,00 € per article plus postage, if appropriate.
  • items from the reading room may not be borrowed (marked with LS in the shelf mark, e.g. LS C.02)

If a requested book be on loan, there is a note to that effect in the title display, as well as the date of return.

Books that are marked "ordered" in the place of the shelf mark are not currently available.

Extension of loan period

The loan period is 30 calendar days. The library may impose shorter loan periods. The loan period can usually be extended twice, unless another user requests the item. An extension may arranged by
